Waiver & Assumption of Risk Agreement

Important Notice

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and martial arts training involve physical contact and carry an inherent risk of injury.

By participating in classes, training sessions, sparring, competitions, seminars or events organised by Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds, you acknowledge and accept the risks outlined in this agreement.

If the participant is under 18 years of age, this agreement must be accepted by a parent or legal guardian.

Assumption of Risk

I understand and accept that participation in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and related physical activities may involve risks including, but not limited to:

  • Minor injuries such as cuts, bruises and sprains

  • Joint injuries and muscle strains

  • Serious injury through accidental contact or physical exertion

  • Risk of infection or illness associated with close-contact sport

I acknowledge that no training environment can be completely risk free.

I voluntarily choose to participate and accept responsibility for the risks associated with training and participation.

Medical & Health Responsibility

I confirm that, to the best of my knowledge:

  • I am physically and medically fit to participate in training activities

  • I will inform instructors of any medical condition, injury or concern that may affect safe participation

  • I understand it is my responsibility to seek appropriate medical advice where necessary

I understand that Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds is not responsible for undisclosed medical conditions or injuries resulting from participation.

Training Conduct & Safety

I agree to:

  • Follow instructor guidance at all times

  • Train responsibly and safely

  • Respect training partners, staff and academy rules

  • Immediately stop training if instructed to do so

  • Inform staff immediately of any injury or incident

I understand that failure to follow safety instructions may result in suspension or termination of participation.

Limitation of Liability

Participation in training is undertaken at my own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds, its owners, coaches, staff and representatives shall not be liable for injuries, loss or damage arising from participation in training activities except where caused by negligence that cannot legally be excluded under English law.

Nothing in this agreement limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Personal Property

Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings while attending the academy or events.

Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property.

Photography & Media

From time to time, photographs or video content may be taken within the academy for coaching, promotional or community purposes.

If you do not wish for images or video of yourself or your child to be used, please notify the academy in writing.

Acknowledgement

By participating in training at Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds, members and visitors confirm that:

  • I have read and understood this agreement

  • I understand the risks involved in participation

  • I voluntarily accept those risks

  • I agree to comply with academy rules and instructor guidance
