Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds, we’re not your typical martial arts academy….

Our aim is to develop better people and an even better community for those we share it with.  We want to do this in an environment that feels to you like a second home.

We believe that Jiu Jitsu is for everyone and offer programs for anyone aged 4-64 (and a little older if you’re game)!

We’re not a place for fighters but support those who wish to compete, and if you’re neither….well that’s great too.

You won’t find anyone punching thin air or breaking blocks of wood.  There are no chants or strange noises.  No one-inch punch or superpower.  No black belts aged 10.

Just high level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu delivered in an amazing facility right in the heart of YOUR community.  Oh… did we mention the great coffee and free wifi??

“We are not in the business of martial arts. We are in the business of building confidence. Confidence not only to defend yourself, we help build the confidence required to face life.”
Renzo Gracie

We develop your mind, body and spirit!

We encourage you to overcome adversity, set tough goals and support you and your teammates to achieve them...whatever they may be.

Put simply - we help you to develop into the best version of yourself!

Every time you step onto the mat is an opportunity to develop and we will discover new and ever-changing ways to challenge you both physically and mentally.

We provide you with a safe & supportive environment for continuous learning, growth, and personal expression through the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu Jitsu has given us the tools to overcome many difficulties in life and we want the same for you.

We care about your progress because we’re from your community and we want to see you grow and flourish.

We exist simply to give to you what Jiu Jitsu has done for us.

Is for people who believe that they can be better tomorrow than they are today.

That learning and practicing values such as discipline, respect & kindness make us better individuals and contribute towards a brighter community for us all.

It’s for those who stand shoulder to shoulder with their teammates to face adversity, overcome it and achieve their goals.

People who want to learn in a safe family-friendly environment whilst pushing themselves beyond their perceived limits.

You do not need to be the fittest person (or even close) to train with us! We focus on the people who bring the right attitude to the academy.

If you want to learn new skills and make amazing friends on the way then our school is for YOU!

That training with us will help you to become a more confident, determined & resilient person.

That you will have goals which challenge and have the support in order that you will achieve them.

We promise to see you as an individual. To never discriminate. To always make time. To lead by example. We promise that you will succeed.

Our adult classes last for 60 minutes with our kids classes reduced in duration depending on age.  All of our classes include a thorough warm up, self-defence technique, sport Jiu Jitsu techniques and specific live training.  Our more experienced team members also gain access to separate live training classes which can vary in duration.  Contact us to find out more about all the programs we offer.

We’re committed and passionate in providing a safe place for you and your family to train and connect with others.  For that reason we have put together the following hygiene & health promise which goes beyond recommended guidelines and aims to inform and protect us all.

Our Hygiene Promise?

Just like everything in life, you get out what you put in.  We understand however that with increasingly busy lives, time is precious.  We believe, through many years of experience, that a minimum commitment of 2 training sessions per week is needed to see consistent results and improvements.

Great question!  At Gracie Barra Roundhay Leeds our instructors have over 35 years of experience in martial arts.  As part of the Gracie Barra family each instructor must complete an annual Instructor Certification process which includes enhanced DBS and Sports First Aid.  We also love Jiu Jitsu and pride ourselves on providing the best training, facilities and instruction you’ll find in our city!

No.  We specialise in Brazilain Jiu Jitsu.

No.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a modern martial art by comparison and therefore has developed techniques and fused disciplines to ensure its effectiveness for self-defense.  We won’t teach you anything that doesn’t work…you’ll put all of the things you’ve learned into practice in each and every class.
